The United States struck Iran’s Qeshm Island, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing U.S. officials, according to a Reuters dispatch carried by The Jerusalem Post.
The reported attack was the latest in a series of limited U.S. strikes in recent weeks, the Wall Street Journal said, according to the updated Reuters account. The Journal reported that the strikes were smaller in scale and deliberately kept secret to avoid signaling an intent to resume the major military campaign against Iran.
U.S. Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment, Reuters reported. CENTCOM had not confirmed the reported strike in the brief.
Earlier Monday, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported sounds of explosions on the island, according to Reuters.
The brief did not provide casualty figures, identify targets or describe the mission. It also did not say President Donald Trump had ordered the reported strike. Those details remain unconfirmed.
This is a developing story.
