A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, November 1, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said, in the latest attack on commercial shipping in the waterway.
The agency said the master of a merchant vessel relayed a Mayday call over VHF radio reporting that another vessel had been hit. UKMTO gave no details on the vessel’s identity, damage or casualties, and said authorities are investigating. It advised vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.
The strike follows the war’s worst month for shipping in the strait, when attacks passed 30 in October and a Qatari LNG carrier caught fire off Iran. U.S. Central Command says its forces have redirected 144 commercial vessels while enforcing the naval blockade against Iran.
The incident lands hours before oil futures reopen at 6 p.m. Eastern. U.S. crude closed Friday at $102.95 a barrel after OPEC+ producers met Sunday and held their December output steady.
