Israel’s Central Elections Committee has rejected a request to extend voting nationwide beyond 10 p.m., Ynet reported Tuesday, while allowing voting in Hebron to continue until 10 p.m. because of a power outage.

The decision is being reported by Ynet. A corresponding statement on the committee’s own website had not been independently verified by JBizNews at publication, and direct official confirmation remains pending.

According to Ynet’s report, the request came from most coalition parties. The outlet quoted the committee saying there was no justification for a broader extension under the circumstances, citing high national turnout across sectors.

Ynet also reported that the committee emphasized that anyone who arrives at a polling station before its closing time will be able to vote. That distinction matters for voters waiting at the end of the day: the report describes preserving the opportunity for people who arrive on time, rather than a general extension of the deadline.

Hebron exception does not change the national closing time

The Hebron measure described by Ynet extends voting there until 10 p.m. following a power outage. It does not move the nationwide deadline beyond that hour.

The committee’s general election guidance lists 10 p.m. as the usual closing time for most polling stations, with some smaller or special stations closing at 8 p.m. On Tuesday, 10 p.m. in Israel corresponds to 4 p.m. in New York.

The reported rejection follows earlier calls for extra voting time amid concerns about crowded polling stations. It is a development about the voting process, not an election result. Turnout, television projections and exit polls do not establish how many seats a party has won; official counted results must come from the Central Elections Committee.
