President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had agreed to end U.S. funding to Israel by the end of 2026, describing the payments as $4 billion a year, according to Reuters in a report published by The Jerusalem Post.
Speaking on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, Trump said the agreement had been reached months earlier. His comments disclosed the claimed arrangement Tuesday; they did not describe a deal first negotiated that day.
“Now, as far as paying Israel, Bibi Netanyahu and I have made a deal that we give Israel $4 billion a year, and we made a deal months ago that we’re stopping,” Trump said, according to Reuters.
“We’ve already agreed that by the end of this year we won’t be paying Israel. Now we’ll help Israel if they need it,” he added.
The report presents Trump’s account of the agreement. It does not independently confirm the deal or establish that U.S. funding has already ended. Trump framed the change as taking effect by year-end, while leaving open assistance if Israel needed it.
This is a developing story.
