Democrat Sherrod Brown defeated Republican Sen. Jon Husted in Ohio’s U.S. Senate special election, NBC News reported. The Fox News Decision Desk also called Brown’s victory.
The result would return Brown to the Senate after he lost his reelection bid in 2024. He would serve the remaining two years of the term won by JD Vance in 2022, NBC reported.
Republican Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Husted, previously Ohio’s lieutenant governor, after Vance left the Senate to become vice president. Brown’s win shifts the seat from Republican to Democratic hands.
The result is a media race call, not election certification.
