Republican Gov. Larry Rhoden is projected to defeat Democrat Dan Ahlers in South Dakota’s governor election, Fox News projects.
The result would give Rhoden a full four-year term after he assumed the governorship in January 2025. He succeeded Kristi Noem when she left to become President Donald Trump’s homeland security secretary.
Rhoden, a rancher and former state lawmaker, served as lieutenant governor beginning in 2019. Ahlers is a former Democratic state legislator.
The result is a media projection, not election certification.
