Republican Sen. Mike Rounds is projected to defeat independent challenger Brian Bengs in South Dakota’s U.S. Senate election, the Fox News Decision Desk reported Tuesday night.

The projected victory would give Rounds a third six-year term and keep the seat in Republican hands. He has served in the Senate since 2015, after serving as South Dakota governor from 2003 to 2011.

The result is a media projection, not election certification.
