Democrat Rob Sand defeated Republican Zach Lahn in Iowa’s governor election, according to CBS News and the Fox News Decision Desk.
The result moves the governor’s office from Republican to Democratic hands. Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds did not seek reelection, leaving an open contest.
Sand was first elected state auditor in 2018 and reelected in 2022. Lahn is a farmer and businessman who won a contested Republican primary.
The result is a media race call, not election certification.
