Democrat David Crowley won Wisconsin’s governor election, defeating Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, according to NBC News and the Fox News Decision Desk.
Crowley, the Milwaukee County executive, will become the first Black person elected governor of Wisconsin. He succeeds Democratic Gov. Tony Evers, who did not seek a third term.
The result keeps the governor’s office in Democratic hands in a closely watched swing state. Crowley campaigned on reducing household costs, including housing, health care and child care. Tiffany, a congressman from northern Wisconsin, ran with President Donald Trump’s endorsement.
The result is a media race call, not election certification.
The Associated Press, in a report carried by MPR News, reported that Tom Tiffany conceded defeat.
