Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer won reelection to a sixth term in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District, defeating Republican Sean Kirrane, New Jersey Monitor reported, citing The Associated Press. NBC News also called Gottheimer the winner.
Gottheimer was endorsed by the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce.
The result keeps the district in Democratic hands. Gottheimer first won the seat in 2016, defeating Republican Scott Garrett. His sixth term begins in January.
New Jersey Monitor reported that Gottheimer had more than $13.5 million in campaign cash as of mid-October. The district’s race is separate from the statewide Senate and governor elections.
Official vote counting and certification continue after media race calls.
