Democrat Peggy Flanagan won Minnesota’s U.S. Senate election on Tuesday, defeating Republican Michele Tafoya, who conceded the race.

Tafoya, a former sports broadcaster, said she congratulated Flanagan on a “spirited” and “hard-fought” race, Fox News reported. NBC News named Flanagan the winner in an update at 12:08 a.m. Eastern Wednesday.

The result keeps the Senate seat in Democratic hands. Flanagan, Minnesota’s lieutenant governor, ran for the seat after Sen. Amy Klobuchar left it to run for governor, a race Klobuchar won Tuesday, according to NBC.

Official vote counting continues. A media race call is not an election certification.
