Democrat Brian Poindexter has won Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, unseating Republican Rep. Max Miller and flipping a Northeast Ohio seat long held by Republicans.
Miller conceded just before midnight, the Washington Examiner reported. “I am disappointed at this evening’s election results,” Miller wrote. “I have fought earnestly to continue to represent the interests of my home and community in the Ohio 7th District.” CBS News projected Poindexter’s victory, and NBC News also reported his win.
Miller’s campaign was consumed by domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife and her father, Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, which Miller denied. He defied calls to end his campaign before an August deadline that would have allowed Republicans to replace him on the ballot. Poindexter, a union ironworker and former Brook Park city councilman, faced questions over his own past conduct during the campaign.
The result is a media race call, not election certification.
