Democrat Bob Brooks has won Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, defeating Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie and flipping the seat to Democratic control, according to Fox News’ election-night reporting and the NBC News Decision Desk’s projection.

Brooks, a former Bethlehem firefighter and president of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association, won the Democratic nomination in a four-way primary, Fox reported.

The Lehigh Valley district was a closely watched House battleground. Brooks campaigned on affordability, health care and labor issues, while Mackenzie emphasized taxes, public safety and President Donald Trump’s economic policies, according to Fox.

The projected result is a Democratic pickup in an individual House race, not a separate projection about control of Congress. This report includes no vote totals, margins or final seat counts. Media race calls are not election certifications.
