Democrat Gina Hinojosa is projected to defeat Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in the Texas governor’s race, according to the Fox News Decision Desk. NBC News also projected Hinojosa as the winner Tuesday night.
The projected result would move the governor’s office from Republican to Democratic control. Abbott was seeking a fourth term.
Hinojosa, a civil rights lawyer and former Austin school board president, focused her campaign on public education funding, teacher pay, opposition to school vouchers and household costs, Fox reported.
The outcome is an attributed media projection, not election certification.
