Hedge Fund Founder Wins £1.6 Million After Ex-Employee’s Abusive Discrimination Case

Claims of discrimination and harassment made against hedge fund founder Davide Leone were vexatious and had no reasonable prospect of success from the outset, a London judge ruled as he ordered Jacopo Moretti to pay over £1.6 million ($2.1 million) to his old boss.

The unusually large costs order comes after a London employment tribunal last year dismissed all claims of harassment, antisemitism, discrimination and bullying brought against Davide Leone & Partners and its founder. A large part of Moretti’s case had relied on covert recordings of conversations with Leone and other staff spanning more than 70 hours, which the tribunal called egregious and a “significant breach of trust.”
