Republican James Kingston is projected to win Georgia’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Democrat Amanda Hollowell and keeping the open seat in Republican hands.
Fox News reported Kingston’s victory, and Decision Desk HQ also projected him the winner. The Associated Press called the race at 12:14 a.m. Eastern, according to Movement Voter Project’s tracker. NBC News and CBS News had not called the race, and Hollowell had not conceded.
Kingston, an insurance businessman and the son of former Rep. Jack Kingston, will succeed Rep. Buddy Carter, who gave up the seat to run for the U.S. Senate.
The result is a media race call, not election certification.
