Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms has won Georgia’s race for governor, defeating Republican Rick Jackson and flipping the office from Republican control, the Fox News Decision Desk projects.
The open-seat contest followed Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s two terms. Fox reported that the projected result would end Republican control of the governorship dating to Sonny Perdue’s election in 2002.
Lance Bottoms served as Atlanta’s mayor from 2018 to 2022 and later worked in President Joe Biden’s administration. She advanced through the Democratic primary before facing Jackson, according to Fox.
Jackson, a businessman, won the Republican primary runoff against Lt. Gov. Burt Jones. The general-election result would put a Democrat in the governor’s office while leaving other Georgia races to be decided separately.
Fox posted its projection at 9:25 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday. This report includes no vote totals or margin, and the media race call is not an election certification.
