London’s Metropolitan Police reported 139 arrests Saturday at a demonstration outside the U.S. Embassy in support of the banned group Palestine Action.

The majority of those arrested were detained on suspicion of expressing support for a proscribed organization. Officers remained at the scene and were continuing to make arrests when the figure was released.

The number is a reported police tally from the operation, not a final count. An arrest is not a finding of guilt.

The demonstration took place in the Nine Elms area of south London. Police had warned before the event that expressing support for Palestine Action was an offense under the Terrorism Act.

Saturday’s arrests followed that warning. The tally does not establish the outcome of individual cases or whether those detained will be charged.
