Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang retained President Donald Trump’s support Saturday night, but with a caveat: the president said he would look closely at concerns raised about the chip executive and had not known about the specific matter before he was asked.
“We’ll check it out. We’re going to check it out very closely,” Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago, according to the White House press pool’s account of the exchange.
The question concerned allegations about Huang’s relationship with a suspected Chinese operative. The pool report records the question and Trump’s response; it does not verify the allegation or establish that Huang committed any wrongdoing.
“I didn’t know about the specific thing, but I hope he’s going to be okay,” Trump said. “I have a lot of respect for him. I like him.”
Asked whether he still had confidence in Huang as an adviser on U.S. technology policy, Trump replied: “I would like to say yes. I mean, unless we find out something to the contrary, I’ve always found Jensen Huang to be very above board.”
The remarks did not announce a formal investigation, findings against Huang or a change in his advisory role.
JBizNews previously covered the reported allegations involving Alice Huang and her access to Nvidia’s chief executive, followed by Singapore’s denial that it had investigated her alleged intelligence ties.
A separate statement Saturday from Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs said its government had not investigated Alice Huang’s alleged intelligence ties and denied making statements attributed to its officials on that subject. Singapore said a separate investigation into Megaspeed remained ongoing. Those are distinct questions from Trump’s comments about reviewing the matter.
