Democrat Sherrod Brown is projected to defeat Republican Sen. Jon Husted in Ohio’s U.S. Senate special election, NBC News projects. The Fox News Decision Desk also projected Brown’s victory.
The result would return Brown to the Senate after he lost his reelection bid in 2024. He would serve the remaining two years of the term won by JD Vance in 2022, NBC reported.
Republican Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Husted, previously Ohio’s lieutenant governor, after Vance left the Senate to become vice president. Brown’s projected win would shift the seat from Republican to Democratic hands.
The result is a media projection, not election certification.
