NBC News projects Democrats will win control of the U.S. House of Representatives, returning the party to the majority in the next Congress. NBC published its projection at 10:08 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday.
Decision Desk HQ also projected Democratic control, posting its chamber-wide call at 9:09 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday. The Hill reported that earlier projection.
The projections concern the House elected Tuesday, not an immediate change in the current chamber. The majority would take effect when the new Congress begins its term.
As of this update at 10:12 p.m. Eastern, JBizNews had not seen a matching House-control call from the Associated Press, Fox News or CBS News. This report attributes the chamber-wide projections to NBC News and Decision Desk HQ, rather than presenting them as a consensus among all election desks.
A House majority gives a party control over the chamber’s legislative agenda and committee leadership. It is separate from the Senate result, and this report makes no projection about control of that chamber.
This report includes no final seat count or vote totals. A count of individually called seats is not a final chamber total. A news organization’s projection is not election certification, and individual race counts can continue after a chamber-wide call.
