He called for rejecting politically motivated violence and for a Colorado where people are welcome and hate has no place. His election adds another Jewish governor to Colorado’s history; Jared Polis became the state’s first Jewish governor in 2019, as The Colorado Sun reported at his inauguration.

Florida and New York kept their governor’s offices with the parties that already hold them: Republicans in Florida and Democrats in New York. The outcomes preserve party control even though one state is choosing a new governor while the other is returning its incumbent.

In Florida, NBC News reports Republican Byron Donalds defeated Democrat David Jolly. Donalds would succeed Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose term limit prevented another reelection bid, according to Fox News’ election-night reporting. Florida’s governor’s office lists DeSantis as the current governor.

New York’s result is a reelection rather than a succession. Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul defeated Republican Bruce Blakeman, who conceded, keeping the office in Democratic hands. Hochul’s official biography records that she became governor in 2021.

The distinction is between continuity of party and continuity of officeholder. Florida changes governors without changing the party in charge, while New York retains both its governor and the governing party.

Valdez will succeed retiring Democratic Rep. Nydia Velazquez, keeping the seat in Democratic hands. In a June 23 report on the Democratic primary, NBC projected that Valdez defeated Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.

That June report described Valdez as a first-term state Assembly member and said New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani supported her primary campaign. Velazquez backed Reynoso in that earlier contest.

NBC’s district results page listed Valdez as its projected winner when checked Tuesday night. The network identifies its Decision Desk as the source of its race projections.

Democratic Rep. Wesley Bell has won a second term in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District, the Associated Press reports. AP also reports that Democrat Pia Dandiya won Florida’s 22nd District and Republican Rep. Carlos Gimenez won the state’s 28th District.

In Missouri’s St. Louis-based 1st District, the Fox News Decision Desk projected Bell over Republican Paul Berry III and Libertarian Tom Schmitz. Bell’s general-election opponents were distinct from the Democratic primary contest he won earlier this year.

AP reports two more Florida House winners

CBS News Miami’s election coverage reported that Dandiya has won Florida’s newly redrawn 22nd Congressional District. The network also projected that Gimenez would win the state’s 28th District.

The Florida calls reflect separate district-level outcomes under the state’s congressional map.

Rabb, a Pennsylvania state representative, has defeated independent Dennis Mahoney in the Philadelphia-based district and will succeed retiring Democratic Rep. Dwight Evans. Rabb won a competitive Democratic primary against state Sen. Sharif Street and physician Ala Stanford, Fox reported.

First elected to the state House in 2016, Rabb campaigned on Medicare for All, labor protections and climate policy. Mahoney has a background in nonprofit work and community development; Republicans did not field a general-election candidate in the district, according to Fox.

Castor wins under changed boundaries

In Florida, Castor has defeated Republican Mike Beltran. She has represented the Tampa area in Congress since 2007, but Tuesday’s contest took place under redrawn boundaries that made the district more favorable to Republicans, Fox reported.

The network said the new district removed much of Castor’s former constituency and included territory that Trump carried by almost 12 percentage points in 2024. Republicans had targeted the seat as a potential pickup.

Cooper previously won four statewide elections for attorney general and two for governor. Fox described Tuesday’s win as his seventh consecutive statewide victory. He campaigned on cost of living and health care and said he would work with President Donald Trump where possible while opposing him when needed.

Whatley, a first-time candidate and former chairman of the Republican National Committee, had Trump’s support. He previously led North Carolina’s Republican Party and campaigned on jobs, wages, lower costs and public safety, according to Fox.

Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas has won New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate race, defeating Republican John E. Sununu, the Associated Press reports. Read the AP race call via WTOP.

The result keeps the seat held by retiring Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in Democratic hands. The contest was a competitive and expensive race in a swing state, according to Fox.

Pappas is a four-term House member who previously served on New Hampshire’s Executive Council. Sununu spent six years in the House before winning a Senate term in 2002; he lost his 2008 reelection race to Shaheen, Fox reported.

The AP race call is not a certified election result.

Democratic Sen. Cory Booker has won reelection in New Jersey, the Associated Press reports. He returns for a third full term. Read the AP race call via WTOP.

Booker faced Republican Justin Murphy and two third-party candidates. Murphy is a U.S. Navy veteran, attorney and former deputy mayor of Tabernacle, according to CBS.

A former mayor of Newark, Booker first entered the Senate through a 2013 special election following the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. CBS described his legislative priorities as tax relief for working families, health care access, criminal justice reform and changes to federal immigration policy.

The result keeps New Jersey’s seat in Democratic hands. It does not establish control of the Senate.

Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro has won a second term in Pennsylvania over Republican Stacy Garrity, the Associated Press reports. Read the AP race call via WTOP.

The call concerns the governor’s race in a key battleground state, not Pennsylvania’s congressional contests. Shapiro was heavily favored in his reelection bid and held a large polling and fundraising advantage, Fox reported.

Shapiro previously served as Pennsylvania attorney general, a state lawmaker and a Montgomery County commissioner. Garrity, the state treasurer, is a retired U.S. Army Reserve colonel who deployed overseas three times, according to Fox’s account.

The governor has also drawn national attention as a potential contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. Tuesday’s result is for another four-year term as governor, not a decision about any future presidential campaign.

The AP race call is not a certified election result.

Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff has won reelection in Georgia, defeating Republican Rep. Mike Collins, the Associated Press reports. The result keeps the seat in Democratic hands. Read the AP race call via WTOP.

The result keeps the seat in Democratic hands. Ossoff and fellow Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock were both elected in runoff elections at the end of the 2020 cycle, ending the state’s all-Republican Senate delegation, Fox reported.

Republicans had targeted Ossoff as they sought to defend their Senate majority. Collins emerged from a Republican primary runoff with Derek Dooley, while Ossoff was unopposed for the Democratic nomination, according to Fox.

This AP race call is not a certified election result. It does not establish which party will control the Senate; other races remain to be decided.
